Donald Bradburn arrived in Westminster, Colorado in 1915 to help his uncle at the W. Tyler Stuckey Lumber, Coal & Hardware Store on 73rd Ave. in Westminster. In 1917 Bradburn enlists in the United States Army as World War l begins for the US. He serves in Company B, 341 Machine Gun Battalion, 89th Division. In the Fall of 1918, shortly before he died, Bradburn sends his last letter home to his parents. Donald wrote "Don't worry about me, remember the cause. Still feel like I am coming home to tell you all about it". On Octboer 21, 1918 Donald was killed in action (less than one month prior to the end of the war). This was during the Meuse-Argonne Offensive in Bois de Bantheville, France. He was 27 years old. On July 19, 1919 the Westminster Town Board resolves to: "Change the name of the most beautiful and prominent thoroughfare in the Town of Westminster from Connecticut Avenue to Bradburn Avenue in honor of the early resident and war veteran". It is later changed to Bradburn Boulevard. He was buried in Metairie Cemetery in New Orleans his home town. |
